The Professional Scrum Master (PSM) course is a 2-day course that covers the principles and empirical process theory underpinning the mechanics, rules and roles of the Scrum framework.
Advanced tools for servant-leadership are provided to increase a Scrum Master’s effectiveness. These tools relate to behavioral shifts, working with people and teams, coaching and facilitation techniques, and addressing the organization.
Students learn through instruction and team-based exercises, and are challenged to think in terms of the Scrum principles to better understand what to do when returning to the workplace.
Professional Scrum Master is THE cutting-edge course for effective Scrum Masters and anyone supporting a software development team’s efficiency and effectiveness.
Scrum.org selects only the most qualified instructors to deliver this course. Each instructor lends his or her individual experience and expertise to the course, but all students learn the same core content. This improves their ability to pass the Professional Scrum Master assessments and use Scrum in the workplace.
The Professional Scrum Master course is targeted to Scrum Masters and anyone else responsible for the successful use and/or rollout of Scrum. Any team member, team manager, or person who is looking to know how to lead in an agile organization can benefit from this course.
Assessment and Certification
Unlike other Scrum certifications that require only class attendance, Scrum.org certification requires a minimum score of 85% on a rigorous assessment. The Professional Scrum Master course has two associated assessments and certification: Professional Scrum Master level I (PSM I) and Professional Scrum Master level II (PSM II). All participants completing the Professional Scrum Master course receive one free attempt at the PSM I assessment and are entitled to a 40% discount on the PSM II assessment.
Stephanie offers a complimentary assessment preparation call after the course. This is most useful for students who study and would like to clarify concepts and challenging questions before they take the assessment.
If you pass the PSM I or PSM II assessment, you will receive the industry-recognized certification, and your name will be posted on the Scrum.org website.
Scrum Theory - Establish a solid foundation of what Scrum is based on and why. Understanding the principles is essential for guiding team decisions in effective use of Scrum.
Scrum Framework - Level-set on what Scrum is, specifically all Events, Artifacts, and Roles and the rules that bind them together. This is often when a lot of a-ha moments happen as students realize where their team's may have misunderstandings or opportunities to level-up with their intentional use of Scrum.
The Secret to Scrum Success - Hint: It's getting to Done every Sprint. We will dive deep into why this matters and the impacts of not being Done.
Product Delivery with Scrum - Planning with agility using the Scrum framework and an introduction to some complementary practices.
People and Teams - People and their interactions team members are essential to Scrum's success. In this section, we look at team formation, self-organization, effective collaboration, and more.
The Scrum Master - The entire course builds up to this section. Here we tie the previous learnings together and explore the responsibilities, skills, and traits of a Scrum Master (or anyone looking to demonstrate servant-leadership).
"The way the class size and structure was set was very conducive to collaboration and teaching. Small groups with plenty of interaction, discussions, team and class exercises. The diversity of the group also added to the discussions and class." -- Joseph Pichert, IT Project Manager
"I am incorporating Scrum into a University course. The class has been spectacular thanks to Stephanie's preparation of me. Several students have reported impressive job interviews where employers question them on Scrum. Other students are working internships where they school their professional colleagues on where the organizations are deviating from Scrum." -- Jack Myers, Computer Science Professor, Rowan University
"Stephanie has a remarkable mastery, along with practical experiences, to guide peers, aspiring students, teams and organizations in adopting practices, principles, and concepts outlined in the Scrum courseware and curriculum. While she uses creative ways to facilitate the teaching of Scrum and Agile, she also applies continuous evaluation and feedback to refine her training techniques in order to meet the needs of her students. Much more than being a coach/ trainer/ teacher, Stephanie is very personable and approachable." -- Festus Ojo, App Developer II, Miami University in Oxford.
"I have been very pleased with the Agile Scrum foundation that I gained working with Stephanie. Her thought-provoking training style encouraged me to truly embrace the spirit of the Scrum process. I have been able to integrate the technique into a non-traditional environment to successfully address complex issues in the workplace." -- Cynthia Coleman, Manager, The Ohio State University College of Dentistry
